Principal's Message

Thank you for visiting Saint Joseph School's web site! Saint Joseph School consists of families from Saint Joseph's parish as well as the surrounding communities. The goal of our faculty and staff is to promote academic excellence in a nurturing and caring environment. Our teachers inspire their students to be respectful, confident, and creative learners. In addition, every child's educational experience is enriched by the integration of religious teachings and social responsibility into their daily learning activities. Saint Joseph School is committed to the educational success of every student. We encourage the families of our students to become actively involved in their child's education through various opportunities throughout the year.

Mission

Saint Joseph School educates the whole person intellectually, spiritually, and physically in a safe, nurturing environment. While maintaining academic excellence, we empower our students by instilling Catholic values and life long commitment to learning.

Classes

We offer Preschool (ages 3-5 with flexible scheduling), full day Kindergarten and Grades 1-8. Detailed information about all programs is available in the school office at 802-864-5623.

Curriculum

At Saint Joseph a variety of educational experiences are available in addition to the standard curriculum, including:

  • Computers in classrooms and lab
  • Experimental Science Lab
  • French program in Pre-school through 8th grade
  • Physical education, Pre-school through 8th grade
  • Artist-In-Residency programs
  • Fine Arts studies in Art and Music

Comprehensive Care

For two-income families we provide parents with a number of programs to assist in a variety of schedules:

  • Pre-school for ages 3-5
  • Early arrivals accommodated
  • Full day kindergarten
  • After school program for grades K-8 (gym, games, arts & crafts, and more)
  • Low cost hot lunch program
  • Basketball programs for boys and girls, grades 5-8

Dedicated Staff Make the Difference

The faculty and staff at Saint Joseph are dedicated to the welfare and development of children. We have an average teacher/student ration of 1:20. Furthermore, our teachers keep current with the latest teaching techniques by regularly attending professional development classes and seminars. Our teachers continue to challenge their students through improved classroom curriculums and higher academic standards. At Saint Joseph School you'll find a nurturing learning environment where children are taught respect for one another, themselves and their surroundings.

 


Tuition

Tuition at Saint Joseph School is economical in comparison to most private and parochial schools. We do this by being a small, efficiently operated school with low overhead costs and as a result we keep the cost of a private education affordable to more families. Admission
Saint Joseph School is open to all children. Pre-school must be four, Kindergarten students five, and first grade students six by September first of the school year in which they are enrolling. Immunization records and birth certificate must be complete before the child is admitted.

The procedures for transfer students is as follows:

  • Parent(s) meet with the principal,
  • Parent(s) will be given a tour of our school,
  • Student(s) visit for either a half or full day for assessment,
  • Principal and teacher(s) meet to discuss student(s), and,
  • Principal will notify parent(s) of decision.

Students entering eighth grade will be considered for admission only if family is relocating to this area.

Philosophy

Saint Joseph School is committed to excellence in education by providing a comprehensive learning atmosphere for children from preschool through grade eight. "Comprehensive" at Saint Joseph's means a total package of academic, moral, and spiritual guidance. The academic environment at Saint Joseph School instills a respect for education and humanity that helps give children a feeling of accomplishment and self-reliance.

Our History

Saint Joseph School was established in 1863. With the assistance from the "Daughters of the Heart of Mary," a school of 125 girls was opened. Four years later, the school was opened at its present location for children under nine years old. In 1883 a twelve room schoolhouse was built, followed in 1929 by the present 24 classroom building.

School Board

The Saint Joseph School Board serves as an advisory board to the pastor and administration. Members are appointed to participate on the school board. Areas of responsibility include planning, policy formulation, finances, selection or appointment of the principal, and development, including public relations and marketing. School Board meetings are held once a month September through June.
