Meeting Minutes for St. Joseph School Board Meeting:  September 12, 2006

 

Present:  Norm Smith, Father Steve, VeeVee, Lynn Wood, Hollis St. Peter, Stacey Brandes, Bill McSalis,

Absent:  Jim Hester

 

Opening Prayer

The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m.  Evelyn Rogerson led a prayer service.

School Report

Stacy Brandes presented the school report.

 

Old Business:

Bingo –

  • Recommend change in the budget to $20,000
  • Ideas to ‘spice up’ bingo – raffles, good & soda, increase jackpot, coupon for extra cards for regulars
  • St. Francis makes as much in half the nights
  • Tickets will be place in goody bags for golfers at the tournament

Website –

·         Has been updated with photos/fundraising

·         Questions about using names with photos on site

Year End Finances –

  • Will adjust budget for expense that were under budget (heat) – adjusted budget is due at the end of the month
  • Questions about gym ceiling (fire concerns)
  • Enrollment up to 76 in K-8 and 8 in PreK

 

New Business

  • Role of the board ( can be found on diocesan website
  • Wellness draft (VeeVee) new policy on nutrition and fitness
  • Idea to provide signs to food in cafeteria to inform students of nutritional value
  • NEASC- school is in beginning stage of accreditation process – there will be a board component

Principal’s report – attached

Fr. Steve

  • Great new teachers/new religion teacher in middle school
  • Opening mass was great
  • Finances for park project - $60,000 – to include new fence, sidewalk, plantings, green space
  • Roof – recommendation for replacement by Carlisle Co.- estimated cost $100,000 + - currently collecting information on roof condition
  • How will we finance this expense?  Take monies from restricted funds or raise the funds…Lynn will look into the possibility of classifying school as historic building for funds…temporary patch work – look for replacement in near future
  • Fr Steve recommending board commit to patching roof now – replacing roof next year
  • Board will reserve decision and further discussion after viewing report but patchwork and core sampling will happen
